From Recovery to Strength: My Journey Into Muscle Flexing

2013

My journey with muscle flexing did not begin with fitness goals or a desire to build a certain look. It began much earlier, at a time when I was dealing with an eating disorder and trying to find some kind of control, comfort, and direction in my body and my life. When I was 15, I started training after reading articles in newspapers and trying out simple exercises at home in the evening in front of the television. Every day I kept moving, using what I lovingly called my little training tool, and slowly building a routine that became part of my life.
At first, I did not think of this as a real fitness journey. It was just something I did to cope, to feel better, and to stay connected to my body in a gentle way. Later, I opened Instagram and started sharing parts of my eating disorder recovery. But I quickly realized that I did not want to be defined only by struggle. I began sharing things that genuinely interested me, and after training I sometimes flexed my biceps just for fun. What started as a small, casual thing soon caught attention. People told me again and again that I should do it more often, because even though I was very thin, I had a defined body, a sharp biceps peak, and a look that stood out.
Their feedback made me more curious. I started learning more about proper training, watching more content, and understanding how the body really works. For the first time, I went to a real gym, even though only for a few months. After that, I returned to training at home, but by then something had changed: I was listening to my body more carefully, training with more awareness, and learning how to use both discipline and common sense instead of forcing things. That was the beginning of a deeper connection to movement, strength, and control.
It was also during this time that I discovered yoga for the first time in the gym. At first, I thought yoga was a little strange, too esoteric, and not really for me. But over time, my opinion changed completely. Yoga turned out to be much more than what it looks like from the outside. It is movement, strength, control, flexibility, and breathing. Especially the breathing became incredibly important in my life. It helped me in many situations, and during the pandemic I began doing a few minutes of stretching every morning after waking up. Even now, when I am in Germany, I try to keep at least a little morning movement in my routine, even if it is only a short stretch while brushing my teeth.
The pandemic was also a difficult time in another way, because I was dealing with a stalker situation that was emotionally exhausting. Training, stretching, and yoga helped me stay grounded. They gave me something to focus on, helped me quiet my mind, and brought me back to myself. In a time that felt unstable and stressful, movement became my way back to peace, balance, and inner strength.
Since March 2025, I have been going to the gym at least three times a week, and everything has continued to improve from there. My relationship with food and with my body has become better, but that is only part of the story. What matters most to me now is that I love pushing my body within its limits in a healthy way, getting stronger, building muscle, improving control, flexibility, and mobility, and discovering what my body is capable of. I want to see how far I can go with good nutrition, discipline, enjoyment, and no substances.
This journey is still unfolding, and that is what makes it exciting. I do not know exactly where I will be in two or three years, but I know I will keep growing, learning, and becoming stronger. For me, muscle is not just about appearance. It is about healing, confidence, resilience, and becoming the strongest version of myself.
